The RISE Program - Undergraduate

Goals of the Undergraduate Component:


The goals of the combined academic enhancement and research apprenticeships are to retain students in the science major track especially during the freshman year; to increase the number of students who apply to and are accepted into graduate school; and to increase the number of students who successfully complete Ph.D. degree programs in the biomedical sciences.

Undergraduates are exposed to various academic enrichment activities such as group recitation sessions for key first-year courses (e.g., General Biology, General Chemistry), tutorials in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Pre-calculus, seminars, and research apprenticeships.

Criteria:

  • Major in biology or chemistry

  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.8

  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (overall and in the sciences)

  • Interest in considering a research career

  • Three letters of recommendation from high school teachers (two from the sciences)

  • U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien
